I. Basic Project Information

  • Project Affiliation: One of the key control projects of the newly-built Shenzhen to Shenshan Cooperation Zone Railway (referred to as "Shenshan Railway"). Shenshan Railway is an important part of the coastal high-speed corridor in the national "Eight Horizontal and Eight Vertical" high-speed railway main passages, and also a key rail transit construction project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
  • Geographical Location: Located at the tail of Shenzhen Reservoir in Luohu District, Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. The line crosses Shenzhen Reservoir, with the first-class water source protection area adjacent to both sides.
  • Construction Entities: The project owner is Shenzhen Railway Investment and Construction Group Co., Ltd., constructed by China Railway Shanghai Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., designed by China Railway Fourth Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd., and supervised by China Academy of Railway Sciences (Beijing) Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd.
  • Construction Period: The contract construction period is from November 30, 2022 to November 30, 2027, with a total construction period of 1,826 calendar days.

II. Project Scale and Technical Standards

1. Core Engineering Parameters

  • Bridge Length: There are slight differences in records from different sources, which are 631.12 meters and 639.02 meters respectively (differences in statistical standards, both are core project data).
  • Main Structure: The main bridge adopts a high-low tower concrete cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 242 meters, crossing the reservoir in one span, which is the largest-span high-low tower partial cable-stayed bridge for high-speed railways in China. The remaining bridge sections adopt 4-32m double-line cast-in-place simply supported beams, and the overall upper structure is a combination of 1-(78.85+242+139+36.85)m double-line cable-stayed bridge and simply supported beams.
  • Foundation Engineering: A total of 9 construction piers and abutments are set, with the maximum pier height of 30.35 meters; 96 pile foundations, with the maximum pile length of 65 meters.

2. Technical Standards

  • Railway Grade: High-speed railway, designed operating speed of 350 km/h (250 km/h for the section from Xili to Luohu North).
  • Track Standard: Constructed in accordance with CRTS double-block ballastless track standards, the main line adopts 60N rail continuous welded rail track; a rail expansion adjuster is set at the small mileage end.
  • Line Attribute: Double-line railway, main line spacing of 5.0 meters (4.6 meters for the section from Xili to Luohu North), minimum train interval of 3 minutes.

III. Construction Progress

  • On December 10, 2022, the entire line of Shenshan Railway officially started construction, and Shenzhen Reservoir Extra-Large Bridge, as a control project, entered the preliminary preparation stage simultaneously.
  • On December 28, 2024, the first pile of Shenzhen Reservoir Extra-Large Bridge was successfully drilled, marking the official entry of the bridge into the construction stage.
  • From July to August 2025, the project successively released tender notices for the procurement of bridge substructure, cantilever continuous beam, support cast-in-place beam projects and enclosures, promoting the preparation of construction materials and processes.

IV. Key and Difficult Construction Points

  • High Requirements for Ecological Environmental Protection: Located around the first-class water source protection area of Shenzhen Reservoir, the project needs to overcome the problem of water source degradation, formulate strict environmental and water conservation measures, and avoid water source pollution caused by construction.
  • Complex Engineering Environment: The line is arranged in a 100-meter-wide corridor in coordination with the proposed Shawan River Interception and Drainage Project and the planned expressway, resulting in great difficulty in coordinating cross-construction operations; the surrounding area is densely covered with pipelines, and the land acquisition and demolition task is arduous.
  • High Technical Difficulty: The main bridge is the largest-span high-low tower partial cable-stayed bridge for high-speed railways in China, with high requirements for structural design and construction technology; it is necessary to solve technical problems such as the optimization of cable-stayed bridge cables and main beam sections, and the stability control of large-span bridge construction.

V. Project Significance

  • Transport Hub Value: As a key node of Shenshan Railway, after completion, it will help Shenshan Railway achieve the goal of 30-minute access from Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone to Shenzhen's central urban area and improve the high-speed railway network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
  • Regional Development Driving Force: It will promote the northward expansion of Shenzhen's Luohu District, strengthen the transportation hub function of Luohu North Station, accelerate the resource integration of the Shenzhen metropolitan area, and have far-reaching significance for advancing the construction of Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone and optimizing the spatial pattern of Guangdong's economic development.
  • Technical Demonstration Value: As the largest-span high-low tower partial cable-stayed bridge for high-speed railways in China, its construction experience in water source protection areas and construction technology in complex environments can provide reference for similar projects.

Remarks

There are slight differences in some engineering data (such as bridge length) due to different statistical standards at different stages, all of which are derived from official approvals or authoritative construction reports; 2. The relevant project information is subject to the latest release by the construction unit, and you can follow the official announcements of Shenshan Railway for progress updates.
